My Interview with Gary Starta

Name: Gary Starta

1)                  How long have you been writing?  Now reaching the ten year mark after I wrote a few short stories and what became my first novel beginning in fall 2004.

2)                  What or who was your inspiration to write? It is a mix of Isaac Asimov, Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Jim Buther, Laurell K. Hamilton and Rachel Caine.

3)                  Which genre do you like to read?  I like SCI FI and Fantasy primarily as I tend to blend the two together, especially in my novel Demon Inhibitions.

4)                  Do you write this genre or others?  I write mixed genres or what I refer to as ‘fiction on the fringe of genre’. I blend SCI FI, Paranormal, Urban Fantasy and Mystery/Crime with a touch of Romance.

5)                  Who are your favorite authors?  Dean Koontz jumps to mind, I love his storytelling and witty dialogue.

6)                  How do you choose your characters names? Whatever springs to mind most often and in the case of Caitlin Diggs, I can’t recall – which is funny – because maybe she named herself to me from some other reality.

7)                  Do you edit as you write or after you get your manuscript written? I write and edit together;  I think it’s what you do when you’ve been at this awhile. I tend to re-read at a later date to see if the flow works.

8)                  Do you have an agent, publisher, or self-publish? If you’ve used more than one which was most profitable? I do both actually. I recently self published three of the four books of the Caitlin Diggs series but my forthcoming book Dead Market has been agented and placed at a traditional publisher.

9)                  What advice would you give a new writer? Persistence.  Keep doing this if it’s in you and it’s what you love.

5 star read!

…the story pulled me in, and wouldn’t let go. A young man with emotional problems, a man who wants to control the world, a disheartened FBI agent and they are on a collision course, all controlled by the power of an arrowhead shaped pink crystal. Very riveting story, and I really want to follow the FBI agent, Caitlin, into her further adventures. I believe this series will hold many more surprises, and look forward to traveling them with her.

I love this story. The author is inventive and tells the story in a very interesting way. It is well written by a truly terrific author.

I love the story line and the author’s inventive nature of Blood Web. I have read the book twice and find it very interesting and well written.
