Details of the sea witch’s banishment have been exaggerated. The body count that preempted it was not. Once an illustrious princess, her hands and tentacles were stained with the blood of thousands. No one could comprehend how the hooks of madness dragged her down from her life of privilege.

Born Princess Vanessa of Atlantica, the ambitious young royal was one of two children born to the great King Poseidon. She and her brother, Triton, were groomed from birth to rule. Yet only one would ascend that coveted throne. While carefree Triton flits through his training with a cavalier demeanor and beguiling charm, Vanessa’s hunger for her father’s acceptance drives her to push herself to the limits of magic, and combat to become a leader worthy of her people.

Snowbound. Sounds so romantic, with visions of cuddling before a roaring fire, hot chocolate spiked with brandy, and a secret elopement.

Wait. What?

My fiancé’s father won’t stop trying to turn our pending wedding into a three-ring media circus so he can get free publicity for his family’s Fortune 500 company. My mother has decided she’s done with All Things Wedding and asks her teacup Chihuahua for mother-of-the-bride advice.

They’ve all gone certifiably mad.

Then the stress from the wedding puts my mother in the hospital, I scream at my future father-in-law in front of a camera crew and the video goes viral, and the romantic wedding that started with Andrew’s grand Pride and Prejudice proposal looks less like Jane Austen and more like Dostoyevsky.

So what do you do…

Cover Reveal: Frozen Flames by Lara Whatley

Rachel Poli

I’ve had the pleasure of helping author Lara Whatley with the cover reveal of her latest novel, Frozen Flames. This novel is a young adult science fiction and fantasy due for release in June 2017.

My Thoughts:

My favorite color is blue, so anything blue is appealing to me. I love the crack that extends in all directions of the cover showing that something is amiss or broken. According to the blurb (which is down below), things aren’t exactly “normal” anyway. This was a great way to show that.

Plus, the gold spiral symbol in the middle makes you question what that is, what it means, and what it does. It gives more meaning to the cover, to the book itself, making you question what the story is actually about.
