The 17 by Mike Kilroy, published by Fishtail Publishing  has been called a cross between “The Hunger Games” and “The Breakfast Club”. Others have compared it to “The Lord of the Flies” both because it’s a coming of age story and because of the dystopian world it presents. Told in 3 parts or books, it begins with the abduction of Zack, an ordinary 17-year-old boy from Maine, by the Ankhs, who live on a distant planet. Convinced that their civilization can only be saved by something they call a “spark”, the Ankhs have devised a plan to create one by pulling together a group of 17 teenagers from all over the galaxy and pitting them against each other in various contests, trials and brutal challenges, both physical and mental.   Zack becomes involved with one of the other 17, a girl named Mizuki, and together they…

Viv Drewa is a Michigan native who has enjoyed reading and writing since 1963. Though she studied medicinal chemistry at the University of Michigan, her passion has always been writing. She had been awarded third place for her nonfiction short story about her grandfather's escape from Poland. Later, she rewrote this story and was published in the "Polish American Journal" as "From the Pages of Grandfather's Life" and has republished it on Amazon.com as a short story.
