Last week, Edan Lepucki came to BookPeople, reading and signing her debut novel and our Top Shelf Pick for July, California! Recommended by Stephen Colbert and BookPeople’s own, Alex, Lepucki’s California takes on the post-apocalyptic tale with refreshing tenderness and realism as a married couple navigate and survive in their new world.

Alex says: “All the dynamic relationships between friends and families are earned by communicating, in confessions and boasts and admitting fears, so California stays true through its bittersweet ending. I was left wanting more, until I looked outside and remembered how close it comes to being so real.”

Needless to say, it was a great event. Afterwards, Edan was kind enough to share a few recommendations for books she’s loved. The summer isn’t out yet, so take advantage of these great titles! Here are Edan’s picks:

Stoner by John Williams
The Known World by Edward P. Jones
