The Dark Forest: Literature, Philosophy, and Digital Arts
An ordinary rock is the most beautiful thing in the world.
It might hold a life you would not have seen before,
Unless in the seeing you begin to notice the ordinary world.
I do not need the myths of ancient Greeks to tell me that.
I can hold an agate or a plain river stone in my hand,
Show you magic in a whirl of color all aglow in sun or moon;
For all of that we only need our feet and hands and eyes,
To walk along the path, pick up a stone, and glance in its dark life.
Today you’re free to do as you please. The magic is your mind.
A rock can be a ladybug, deer, cat, owl, snake, lynx or raccoon;
So the next time you see a rock remember what I said: the life
Within your mind may just find that you, too, are beautiful as ordinary.
