Yea, I see you there, shaking your head,
like you knew things would turn out this way;
or is that just a sigh I hear in your voice,
a sort of fed up motion or heave of despair;
maybe you’d hoped for more from us;
thought we’d be farther along than this,
beyond all that feudalistic temperaments?
True, sometimes I get that haggard look,
mornings in the mirror tell me don’t see
too closely what new lines have grown
around the edges, some degeneration,
else a day older; maybe its a worry
for our country that has brought me here?
Sure I know we look like we failed,
fallen from some high thought; hear tell
it wasn’t much better when you lived,
