A tale for the young at heartBy Rita Monette – September 4, 2014
Edric, the Hatchling Gryphon is a medieval tale of a young gryphon that grows into a brave warrior destined to save his species.
Edric’s story begins with a strange blue stone believed to be a gryphon egg, that is nurtured by a woodsman, Aerek, and his friend, Beecie, an herb collector, in the Mythic Mountains.
The stone indeed hatches a gryphon, a mythical creature with the head of an eagle and the body of a lion, whom they name Edric.
As Edric grows, he proves his bravery by rescuing some children from a wolf, saving Beecie from a troll, and finally saving his new mountain home from a gang of huge and smelly Cyclops.
The story of Edric, the Hatchling Gryphon is told first person by Aerek, and holds the reader’s attention as the tale unfolds from his finding the blue stone to the blow-by-blow battle with the Arimaspi Cyclops, and to Edric finding his own kind and learning of his special status.
