September’s mini competiton on Elizabeth Frattaroli’s blog is flash fiction. The piece must be no more than 50 words on the theme of Mystery and Magic.
This is my entry.
The ritual was over, the masked women retreated, leaving her to savour her triumph. She lay exhausted but ecstatic—the pain a small price to pay. The man approached reverently. “Look,” she said proudly. A wrinkled face blinked bleary eyes at him. “Magic,” he whispered through his tears of joy.
