Tourists

In ones and twos
In sturdy shoes
The early morning tourists pass.

They lean against the iron rail
To watch the screaming seagulls sail
Across the gleaming river.

Too early yet
For the rest to get
Their breakfast down on the cruise ship docked

Their Cameras set
And tour guide met
To take them along the river.

The sun is hot
When they reach the spot
To see what the tour guide tells them to see

In gleaming white
They all turn right
Their backs to the rolling river

Donโ€™t raise their eyes to the radiant sky
To watch the skein of geese fly by
But click a pic of a passing bus
And leave the morning joys to us.
