Newer treatments for Hep C are faster, simpler, and more effective with less severe side effects. The challenge is the costs of the new meds. I am hopeful that I will be cured of my Hepatitis once these drugs are available to patients at a cost that the insurers can tolerate.

With Harvoni you take one pill a day and some can be cured in as little as eight weeks. Additionally, patients who take Viekira Pak, a new combination pill, for 12 to 24 weeks, don’t need an added injection. This is a huge difference from just a few years ago, when hepatitis C patients had to take ribavirin pills and interferon injections for almost a year, and most weren’t cured, but Harvoni  costs $94,500 for a 12-week course of treatment
