Many web owners sell books directly, and sometimes exclusively from their sites, collecting one hundred percent of the price via PayPal. If you publish with Amazon KDP Select, this is obviously not allowed – in fact, if your book is with Select, you are only allowed to distribute the digital books through them, and only the selling of your paper books after ordering them from your POD supplier is considered kosher.

If you’re not with KDP Select you can sell them anywhere you like, so the website option then becomes viable, and a very good idea too. As an independent publisher you get to try a variety of avenues for selling and marketing your books. We all know about Smashwords and all the other sites where you can make your books available to buy. It’s quick work to load them up there – although – not such quick work to…

  1. Because I am so unknown and have been burned by giveaways, Thunderclaps, and Takeovers…and cannot seem to get the hang of marketing or get authors to actually read my books even when given to them for free, this seems like a “What could it hurt?” option.

      • On top of it I was even told last night by and “admin” of the group I had for the launch of my original book that I had, in fact, never even HAD a blog and that all of my postings (almost daily) were basically useless…That’s 2 years of work. Then he began to subtly berate me (via inbox) and imply that I was too ignorant to be helped. I’m selling 3-4 ebooks a month, no print books online and getting NO feedback.
I’d like to have a blog, too, but it would be the fourth try to have one and most would be re-posts of the things I posted on the “imaginary” blogs.
        I’m at my wits end.
