Today we have the good fortune to be able to interview Arabella the antagonist in the book The Coming of Arabella by Joanne Guidoccio. Arabella’s arrival disrupts the lives of the other characters in the novel. She has consented to answer a few questions about her life.

Tell us about your origins.

I was born in the waters off the shores of Malta. As a Bella, I was entitled to all the privileges of that class. But I did not meet my grandmother’s exacting standards, so within hours of my birth I was sent to the island of Crete. There, I lived for twenty-four years until Stewart Tobin rescued me.

What were those exacting standards?

In the Mediterranean Kingdom, there is a definite hierarchy, based primarily on looks. Auburn-haired with green eyes and porcelain skin, the Bellas are treated like royalty. Next…

Viv Drewa is a Michigan native who has enjoyed reading and writing since 1963. Though she studied medicinal chemistry at the University of Michigan, her passion has always been writing. She had been awarded third place for her nonfiction short story about her grandfather's escape from Poland.
