THE OWL LADY PRESENTS GUEST AUTHOR: ALEC HAWKES

Alec Hawkes is an English chap who has, so far, written four books in his own unique style.   All four are satirical swipes at ‘the system’, initially mostly about ‘the system’ in Britain, but with his third and fourth books America also comes in for a fair bit of stick.

Though he has recently turned fifty four, Alec has never actually received any formal training in how to write –  at least, not since his English lessons at school back in the 1970’s. He is very much his own man and by nature he tends to reject the ‘norm’ to do his own thing. He has, though, received much critical acclaim for his somewhat different books, and many people have remarked upon his ability to take the reader with him as opposed to talking at the reader, as is quite often the case in satire.
His first book – COMMON SENSE WOULD BE GOOD – was actually only intended to be a ‘one off’, an attempt to fund his 1000 mile charity walk from the top to bottom of Britain in 2013. The book sold enough to cover around a third of the costs he incurred, but it did receive a lot of acclaim in certain circles – principally with the ‘ordinary folk’ that he was aiming it at. Inspired as he now was, he followed the first book with IF BRAINS WERE DYNAMITE, and this too produced a lot of the chuckles from readers that he had hoped for.  So, what of the content of these little books?
Alec has had a lifelong interest in politics, ever since his history lessons at school when he learnt all about Gladstone and Disraeli, then the birth of the Labour party and the increased rights for ordinary folk that began to come along with it. Alec has a sense of fairness, a sense of doing what is right. It is this very thing that made him want to look deeper into the murky world that he saw before him; the murky world of politics. In this murky world, the way Alec sees it, there are a great many politicians who claim to represent the ordinary people who put them there – and this is in far more places than just Great Britain, all over the world in fact! These politicians who, apparently, represent all of us ordinary folk actually don’t; they represent themselves. They serve themselves and the mega rich banks and multi-national corporations that operate the system under which we are forced to live.
Cynical, perhaps? Absolutely! Alec puts his tongue firmly in his cheek and dismantles the cobblers (his favourite word, which you will know all about when you read his work) that these politicians thrust our way. He doesn’t just cast a cynical eye over all of the nonsense that they spout, and produce something that is as dry and depressing as a politician’s overly rehearsed speech, not by a long chalk. Alec has an extremely well developed sense of humour and this, coupled with his cynical insight, has enabled him to produce four books that do deliver a serious message, but they also produce some of the finest rib-tickling kick in the gut writing around today.
His third and fourth books – ARSE ABOUT FACE  and OUR LIES ARE BETTER THAN THEIRS – take the attack again to Westminster and the British parliament, but they also take a trip across the pond to have a serious swipe at the cobblers that is force fed to the long suffering folk in America.  If you do your best in life, in your work; if you constantly see a lot of unfairness around you; if you hear politicians spouting off a whole load of rubbish, AND you enjoy a damn good laugh, then you really should take a good look at Alec’s four little books. They will have you raising your eyebrows and laughing your socks off in pretty much equal measures.
You can find ALEC HAWKES‘ books here, at Amazon, in both paperback and e-book, for just a few pounds, or dollars.

Alec is also now working on a fifth book, entitled REALLY? – which is equally humorous with a serious message – but this time he has more than a little ‘pop’ at the ordinary people who suck up all the cobblers that the politicians and the media throw their (our) way. Look out for this one, it will be out around Christmas time. He is also working on his first book of novel length, a serious and moving tale set during the two world wars of the twentieth century, entitled WHY GRANDAD?
