At times we all enter those dark forests of the mind,
wander in search of cabins and unicorns,
hope to find that danger we call love
lurking somewhere in those other worldly mists
we’ve all heard about;
it’s a part of being human,
a longing beyond this emptiness
we share
in a world where business and commerce

seem to smash us up and down
into puddles of oblivion;
but when
we happen on it, that light that light’s us up,

the power of caring and sharing, of tenderness;
it seems to take our breath away, deliver us to kisses
and a world beyond the green decay of days,
and golden forests
filled with silver rain and moon gleams,
and sweetness rather than bitterness for a change;

it doesn’t matter that it might not last, what counts
is that it is, and a wonder that it is in being found,

Viv Drewa is a Michigan native who has enjoyed reading and writing since 1963. Though she studied medicinal chemistry at the University of Michigan, her passion has always been writing. She had been awarded third place for her nonfiction short story about her grandfather's escape from Poland. Later, she rewrote this story and was published in the "Polish American Journal" as "From the Pages of Grandfather's Life" and has republished it on Amazon.com as a short story. Viv took creative and journalism courses to help in her transition to fulfill her dream of becoming a writer.
