The opening action finds Gus, aided by his lovable brother-in-law, Siegfried, as they rescue a woman from a burning building. This woman has a secret past, and will need all the love and support the LeGardes can supply to move forward with her life. Gentle Siegfried is especially helpful.
Having struck up a friendship over music with an elderly Alzheimer’s patient at a local nursing home, Gus is intrigued by the man’s rapidly returning memories of his fascinating past. A new drug seems to be working wonders to help Alzheimer’s patients…until it doesn’t, and they begin to regress.
Gus is up against a puzzling mystery once again and has some first-rate help from unexpected sources. This thriller has a tender, romantic story within the story. With several plots going in assorted directions, Gus has his hands full. LeGarde fans will find this book well up to the standards of the series. With his gifted storytelling ability, Aaron Paul Lazar brings together the assorted fibers of the story, tying them up in a most satisfying way.
