Today is my second son’s 26th birthday. This may not seem momentous to some, but it is to me. Before his birth, we thought we were done having children. We had a girl and a boy, and a 10 year gap between this child and our daughter. To say he was a surprise, is an understatement, though not as big a shock as his younger brother, four years later.
Our children have been a great source of character material. Not just them as individuals, but collectively. Their conversations, interactions, arguments and conflicts, together and with others, have filtered into my writing. They would probably be horrified to know how much they have influenced my dialogue alone. Shh, they don’t read my books, so they don’t know….
