Instant Celebrity by Waqar Ahmed Shar Baloch

Nelson Mandela

It is not possible that anybody can have instant celebritystatus. It needs a lot of time, determination and a big heart that readily can give sacifices. If still I am being asked I would be the Nelson Mandela.

He was the leader and celebrity in the truest sense of the word. He let go all the luxuries of life. Remained behind the bars for 22 years without touching his wife. He saw all his family growing up without him and he also knew quite late about the death of his son and mother. Cruel government didn’t allow him to burry his loved one with his own hands. But he did not give up.

He stood up for a cause in such a bleak time when the probability of failure was much higher than the hope of success. But he kept fighting and raising voice against the apartheid. He always led his people by guiding them and making them aware of their rights. Always leading at front when the situation was crucial and always let his follower come in front when it was time to celebrate.

“It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership.”

He preferred prison and all the hardships because he wanted ‘change’ and he knew that there is not short cut to it. He was asked many times to surrender his demands in return of anything he could want. But the true leader never succumb to materialistic benefits nor did he.

He kept fighting in and outside the jail. He not only fought his own case but also fought for others who couldn’t afford an attorney.

I also relate myself to him because he also belonged to a backward family like me. His living standard as a child was same as I had. Their customs and attitude towards their lives were just as we have been taught.

I found great inspiration and similarity in vision though I am nothing before his tall personality. But I am the one want to walk on this foot prints.

If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.

His every saying, every quotes hits my mind and I exclaim – what a person he was.

RIP Nelson Mandela – I Love You
