Welcome to another edition of In The Spotlight. In recent years, several publishers have re-issued classic and Golden Age crime fiction. That move has given modern readers a chance to get to know authors whose work might otherwise have been forgotten. One of those publishers is the British Library, which has made several classic and Golden Age authors available to today’s audiences. Let’s take a look at one of those releases today and turn the spotlight on E.C.R. Lorac’s Bats in the Belfry.

The novel begins shortly after the funeral of Anthony Fell. A group of people is gathered at the home of one of his distant cousins, Bruce Attleton, a once rising star in the literary world. Viv Drewa is a Michigan native who has enjoyed reading and writing since 1963. Though she studied medicinal chemistry at the University of Michigan, her passion has always been writing. She had been awarded third place for her nonfiction short story about her grandfather's escape from Poland. Later, she rewrote this story and was published in the "Polish American Journal" as "From the Pages of Grandfather's Life" and has republished it on Amazon.com as a short story.
