Publication Day Push: The Mysterious Lord Millcroft by Virginia Heath-

Making Lord Millcroft by Virginia Heath

The Mysterious Lord Millcroft, in fact the entire King’s Elite series, came about by accident as I was writing the final book in my Wild Warriners quartet. I knew from the outset that the charming lady’s man Jake Warriner was a spy, so in his book, A Warriner to Seduce Her, I had to create a whole new world of espionage. Being either a planner or a pantser won’t determine whether you sell lots of books. A story that makes sense – one that reads as if you had carefully planned it – is what’s key to creating an experience that readers will relish.

So what do some of the big-name crime writers have to say on the matter?

Canines for Conservation — Amazing Dogs! – by Sue Coletta…

Chris The Story Reading Ape's avatarChris The Story Reading Ape's Blog

Africa possesses a secret weapon in the war against wildlife trafficking, which I discovered in my research for an exciting new series set in Kenya. Canines for Conservationstop traffickers before they can export illegal products, thereby preventing poachers from profiting off their murderous rampage. These incredible dogs fight the good fight every day.

As poaching rates continue to rise, Canine Detection Units are helping authorities sniff out illegal wildlife products. I’ve written abouta dog’s unrivaled smelling abilitiesbefore, but never in this context.

Nonfiction Writers: Beware the Curse of Knowledge – by Anne Janzer…

Chris The Story Reading Ape's avatarChris The Story Reading Ape's Blog

on Jane Friedman site:

Few of your readers care about what you know, no matter how many years you have spent accumulating that wisdom. They care about what they need or want to understand.

You share much in common with your readers: you both live a world with numerous, competing demands on your attention, limited time for “deep reading,” and perhaps a longing for simplicity and clarity.

How do you provide the right amount of information without either oversimplifying the subject or overloading the reader? You’ll have to decide what to include and what to leave out. The more you love your subject, the harder this decision can be.
