Do you want to write a perfect, beautiful sentence?

What writer doesn’t. Am I right?

More times than not, I worry about the correct grammar and structure of my sentences. But there is so much more to writing readable prose. The reader needs to connect with our words.

How do we as writers, produce sentences that manage this connection?

How do we write our best sentences than combined make for a great story?

Here is a really good article By John Matthew Fox,  that not only lists 100 Beautiful Sentences in Literature but explains what makes a sentence memorable.

What I gleaned from his article…

  • Beautiful phrasing does not equal memorable. A reader may admire the words but not love them.
  • Wisdom does not equate beauty.
  • An ambitious sentence is not essential for a perfect sentence
  • Emotion is a must for a perfect, memorable beautiful sentence.
  • A beautiful sentence moves the reader forward.

This is a slight improvement over May ($0.00454) and April ($0.00456). It has been fairly steady this year.

$22.6 million is the KDP Select Global Fund for June, 2018.

Writing a novel synopsis doesn’t have to be a miserable chore.

I have yet to meet a writer who enjoys writing a novel synopsis. Unfortunately, we all need to write them.

Yes, even self-publishers.

I sometimes see people in writing groups and forums who gloat when there’s a discussion of how to write a synopsis. They say “Haha! I don’t have to learn to write a novel synopsis because I plan to self-publish!”

Think again, indies. It’s not just agents and publishers who will ask for a synopsis of your novel. Reviewers, bloggers, and bookstore owners usually want to see a short synopsis, too.

And that “product description” you need to write for online retailers? That one that will make or break your book sales?

That’s essentially a novel synopsis without the ending.
