Coming in Spring

Another Roaring Twenties Pantser Tale

Continuing the adventures of Pip and Granny, it’s…

Three Ingredients 2

A Ghost in the Kitchen!

Hi there, shieks and shebas!  Thanks for all the good thoughts, vibes, prayers, and luck you’ve sent about my relocation.  It was a 2,000 mile trip, and Crystal refused to be the next Toonces the Driving Cat.

After 1,200 miles I stopped at a hotel, for the cat’s sake. Unfortunately it was so noisy that she was too terrified to pee.  I called the vet and was told that she probably wouldn’t go at all while that stressed.  So, four hours of noise later, I gave up any hope of sleep (or cat using litter box) and got back on the road.

I’m on the way to regaining my energy and getting over some intense…

Partners in Crime and Fate

Charles Yallowitz's avatarLegends of Windemere

Hearts once cold
Beat anew
With hunger and passion
For a world
That once was a shadow
*
Meals regain taste
Warmth of sun on the skin
No longer cold
The pair indulge in sensations
That once were memories
*
The past they share
Revived in quips and chats
Triggered by events
The strengthening of a bond
That once was frayed
*
One step is all they need
A catalyst to spark their lives
And roil desires
Belonging to a love
That once was dead

(I was going to make a long post, but this poem came to mind.  Honestly, I think it’s obvious where things are going since War of Nytefall: Loyalty.  That means the real story is how they handle it this time and what dynamic will appear between two very powerful personalities.)

Infographic: Facebook Ads Placements

Nicholas C. Rossis's avatarNicholas C. Rossis

Even though I’ve personally switched from Facebook Ads to Amazon and Bookbub ones, I’m well aware that Facebook advertising is far from dead. However, every Facebook update seems to change everything, including where you can advertise. Adding to the confusion is the fact that Facebook now lets you advertise on Instagram and Messenger as well as the so-called Audience Network, Instant Articles, and Facebook itself.

If all this makes your head spin, here’s a helpful Infographic, courtesy of Jomel Alos. First published on Spiralytics, it not only describes where your Ad will appear in each of these networks but also explains how to pick your desired network based on your objectives. Do you want to let everyone know your name–aka brand awareness? Facebook and Instagram are best. Do you want to increase sales? Ignore Instagram. And so forth.

Open journal on a desk with text: Planning for Success

I don’t know a single person who isn’t so busy that they struggle to get everything done. So I love hearing about different productivity methods and tips.

When I saw L. Penelope talking on Instagram about how she uses bullet journals to increase her productivity, I knew I had to bring her here. I’ve heard a lot aboutbullet journalsfor health and habits, but I loved her perspective of using them for planning our writing.

She highly recommendsSarra Cannon’s 3-Day Planning Bootcamp(which has a session starting today!). In fact, I signed up for the class because everything in the “tell me if this sounds familiar” introduction spoke to me. Deeply. *sigh*

Whether you want to check out the class or not, Leslye’s insights here of how she uses bullet journals can help us plan for success. She’s sharing her ideas onhow bullet journaling can help us…

You don’t need a lot of equipment to create superb audio content.

A fellow book editor and I recently recorded 5 episodes for our podcast with nothing but a couple of mics, a splitter and our cell phones.

Here’s how to do it

on Writers Helping Writers:

Layering: the deepest, richest, most compellingaspect of character

We hear a lot of talk about “layering” as a storytelling device. The more layers a character has, the more complex and individual they are, allowing authors to sidestep cliché and create cast members that are interesting, unique, and compelling.

So let’s talk about some effective ways that we can use layering with our characters.
