15 Simple Reminders You Might Need If You’re Not Getting Enough Writing Done

Meg Dowell's avatarMeg Dowell Writes

1. A little bit of writing is better than none.

2. Terrible first drafts are better than never being able to say you’ve finished something.

3. If you don’t take your writing seriously, no one else ever will.

4. Perfectionism is overrated.

5. You don’t need to watch every new show just because all your friends just binged it.

6. Haven’t seen the latest Oscar-worthy film because you’re on deadline? That’s OK.

7. Writing communities are great. In moderation.

8. You don’t have to respond to every email, notification, or comment.

9. Some people talk about writing more than they actually write. Don’t be one of those people.

10. You don’t need to know everything. It’s OK — even helpful — to learn as you go.

11. Curiosity can be a major distraction. It can also drive you to write better content.

12. “Writer’s Block” is an excuse, not a…

The Protective Plague

by Laura Libricz

From the Overlord’s house came a quiet but vicious argument. I walked past the stately, tiered structure, decorated with wooden carvings. The other houses circling the town square stood quietly: the midwife’s red wooden house built up on stilts; the ironworkers’ blue housing complex and their adjoining workshop also built on stilts; the dark-brown community building, windows tightly shuttered.

The door of the Overlord’s house slammed open and he appeared on the top step. A woman’s sobs came from inside the house. He raised his nose to the sky and sniffed at the air, his black, wiry hair standing on end. He approached the fountain, his black woolen cape fluttering behind him.

“The weather has changed,”…

Unknown's avatarDon Massenzio

by Penny Sansevieri

Especially around the holidays, take a moment and tweak your keywords/keyword strings in Amazon. Maybe you can’t incorporate any holiday – or Christmas-specific keywords, but tweak the keywords during the holidays and find the strongest ones for your market. Oftentimes searches that include “gifts for…” ramp up in popularity around this time.

Amazon Keyword Strings That Pull in More Buyers

You might be surprised by how often Amazon keywords associated with a particular book are weak, or at least lack the strength for optimal performance. Using keyword strings correctly, you can draw potential readers to your topic and ultimately sell more books.

Top Ten things not to do

This post is a continuation of the Top Ten Things Not to Do with a historical background. In 1922, the entrance to King Tutankhamen’s tomb was discovered in Egypt.

Top Ten Things Not to Do if You Are Entering King Tut’s Tomb.

10 If you are entering King Tut’s tomb, do not ignore the curse written on the main door. If you do, at best it is just a practical joke. At worst, that look in the mirror ten days later will give you a hint you should have paid attention. (That dry skin mummy look is trying to give you a head’s up to a problem, Faer. Better contact a shaman quickly.)

9 If you are entering King Tut’s tomb, do not disturb that cloth wrapped hulk with the WWF champion belt. If you do, at best it is just a statue. At worst, the spirit of Tiny the WWF champ has…
