#ShareAReviewDay – Amanda in Spain: The Girl in the Painting by Darlene Foster

Marcia Meara's avatarThe Write Stuff

Lovely to have Darlene back again this afternoon, this time to share a very special review she received directly from a very young reader, who had no adult help with the writing. I know you’ll enjoy this one and will be happy to pass it along to all your contacts! Thanks!

REVIEW:
By Catrin (8 Years Old)

I really enjoyed this book. I like books which have a mystery plot to them, and this book really caught my attention – I read it all in one go! The story kept me guessing until the end. In some parts, the reader is held in suspense while in other times you can almost guess what’s going to happen so I had to read on to find out if I’d got it right or not. My favourite character was Dona because she is a Spanish performer and I like performing as well. I…

6 Free Google Keyword Tool Alternatives For Keyword Research – by Derek Haines…

Chris The Story Reading Ape's avatarChris The Story Reading Ape's Blog

on Just Publishing Advice:

You need keywords for your blog articles or to choose your 7 Amazon book keywords

Whether you are a blogger or an author, or both, you continuously need to research and select suitable keywords.

While the Google Keyword Tool is the choice of many, you need to have an Adwords account to be able to use it.

But Google Adwords is for advertisers who use it to assign keywords to the Google Keyword Planner for their campaign ad groups.

For authors and bloggers, going to all the trouble of signing up for an account, including your billing information, is not worth the effort.

However, there are many free alternatives that you can use to find keywords for the articles you write, or for the Amazon keywords that you need to add to your books and Kindle ebooks when you publish.

In fact, for authors, you should continue to research…

#ShareAReviewDay – For the Sake of a Child by Stevie Turner

Marcia Meara's avatarThe Write Stuff

This morning, please help me welcome author Stevie Turner, who would like to share a review of For the Sake of a Child. I know you’ll find this a subject of importance, and will help us get the word out far and wide. Thanks!

REVIEW:
A haunting book
 on June 12, 2018
Also on Robbie’s Inspiration

I listened to the audio book of this haunting story about the dark and disturbing world of pedophilia. The narrator, Janine Haynes, had a lovely voice and her narration was well paced and enjoyable.

Ginny Ford is an ordinary and hard working woman. Her loyalties lie with her family comprising of her husband and young daughter. Ginny is a writer of children’s literature and supplements her income by working in the early hours of the morning as a cleaner at the offices of FhizzFace Inc.

When Ginny accepts…

Trim the fat from your fiction: Redundancy – by Kerri Miller…

Chris The Story Reading Ape's avatarChris The Story Reading Ape's Blog

on Utopian Editing site:

Great stories can be ruined by too many words. Redundancy in particular can make your prose squeak like the clarinetists in a middle school band (I’m allowed to say that because I played clarinet).

Not all repetition is bad. It can be used to emphasize or connect important ideas, like “I have a dream” in MLK’s best-known speech. But most of the time, it’s simply clutter.

You want the reader so immersed in your story they forget they’re reading words on a page. Anything that reminds them of your fingers on the keyboard MUST go.

We’ll look at four types of undesired repetition today:

  • Dialogue tags
  • Character names
  • Pet words
  • Hidden redundancy

Grab your manuscript and a utility knife!

Great reminder on what not to worry about

Jean M. Cogdell's avatarJean's Writing

In other words…

I need to use this as my screen saver. A constant reminder that my first draft doesn’t have to be perfect.

I’ve rewritten the same chapter at least five times. Tweaking a comma here, a comma there, putting commas everywhere only to go back rewrite the sentence and throw out all the commas.

That’s just one example of how I worry over small stuff that should wait until the damn book is finished.

Thanks go out to Janice Hardy over at Fiction University for a great reminder in this terrific post on writing first and fixing last.

Things I want to remember about writing…

  • The novel doesn’t have to be planned and structured to the last detail before I start writing.
  • Complete the thought and don’t worry about crossing every t and dotting every eye. Time for that later.
  • Don’t worry about too many characters in a draft…
