How to host a Soft Launch for your book on Amazon to dazzle potential readers and boost sales – by Stephanie Chandler…

Chris The Story Reading Ape's avatarChris The Story Reading Ape's Blog

on Non Fiction Authors Association:

When you self-publish a book, you have several options for launching it into the world. You can host a presale on Amazon and promote it for weeks or even months in advance. This strategy can be effective, especially if you have a following of supporters and want to build sales momentum.

You can also decide to launch your book and hit the ground running, though this strategy can backfire if you promote the book on the same day it’s released and you haven’t yet worked out any kinks. Amazon can be glitchy and a bit frustrating, so your book may not be ready for prime time (no pun intended) right out of the gate.

I prefer to use a Soft Launch strategy for newly published books, which can be surprisingly simple and effective.

on Just Publishing Advice:

There’s no doubt that Grammarly is one of the most popular grammar checkers for writers and bloggers.

But as with all online apps and services available on the Internet, you might have some concerns regarding your privacy and personal data.

Whenever you register and install any app or program on your computer or mobile devices, it’s always worth checking the privacy policy and terms of service.

The Benefits of Writing Flash Fiction – by Nancy Stohlman…

Chris The Story Reading Ape's avatarChris The Story Reading Ape's Blog

on Jane Friedman site:

Consider flash fiction an opportunity. Let go of your tricks and your clever exposition techniques. Let go of your need to explain. Discover what you don’t need to say.

Let go of description—one perfect detail will do the trick. Let silences be potent. Don’t rush to fill them.

Let go of extra words: create meaningful gaps.

Let go of the urge to linger.

So what’s left?

What’s left is a tightly crafted nugget of concentrated gold. What’s left is flash fiction.

Titles and Comp Titles — How To Find the Best Ones For Your Book – by Ruth Harris…

Chris The Story Reading Ape's avatarChris The Story Reading Ape's Blog

on Anne R. Allen:

A Prince by any other name would still be a Prince. (I hope.)

Meghan by any other name would still be a princess

Ditto Diana.

Lord or Lady. Peasant or serf.

Professor or student.

Beginner or expert.

Titles orient us to where we are and what we should expect next.

Doesn’t just apply to people, either. Also applies to books, because time-pressed readers/editors/agents take only a few seconds to make their buy decision, and authors have the same few seconds to make their sale.

Chris The Story Reading Ape's avatarChris The Story Reading Ape's Blog

on Build Book Buzz:

(This article first appeared in March 2020, but is still valid today)

This week’s article was inspired by a humorous tweet that went viral.

On March 7, thriller writer Mark Edwards tweeted, “I’ve heard that coronavirus is going to cause a massive shortage of books, which will be essential when we’re all stuck at home, so it’s very important for everyone to rush out and start panic-buying novels. Thank you.

His tweet was liked 411,300 times, retweeted 67,200 times, and commented on 3,600 times. “Oh my goodness, this has gone bonkers,” he tweeted a day later. Bonkers indeed.

Forced nesting

It got me thinking, especially considering that since he tweeted that tongue-in-cheek public service announcement:
